Jason Walker

"In my ceramic sculpture I have been exploring American ideas of nature and how technology has changed our perceptions of it. For quite some time the inspiration for my imagery has come from day-to-day experiences which inform my perceptions more significantly than anything else. I travel to specific American wilderness locations and backpack with my sketchbook to gather imagery because the wildness of the outdoors embodies our most idealistic perception of nature. I also explore the landscapes of technology. Traveling to both large cities and wilderness areas has been an important exploration of the dichotomy of culture and nature. Perhaps through examination we may once again reinstate our own naturalness and, one day, find balance between the planet and ourselves. Ultimately, in doing so we may come to a better realization of what it means to be human." -Jason Walker
