About the Artist

Jacob Foran

Jacob Foran's sculpture blurs the lines between narrative and abstract, eloquent and absurd, dream and reality. For Foran outer space and underwater are metaphorical landscapes that, respectively speaking, express the forces that exist around us and therefore influence the emotion within us. In his work, technology such as rockets, space suits, and diving helmets signify a physical boundary between humanity and environment. This is a two-fold plot, since at the same time, they symbolize exploration and discovery- a curiosity for the unknown and a fascination with creation.

Based in Seattle, Foran has a masters in fine arts in ceramics from University of Washington and is member of the faculty of the Visual Arts Department of Lakeside Upper School. He has been a resident artists of the European Ceramic Work Center in the Netherlands, the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana and in the Ceramics Department of CSU-Long Beach. In 2017 Foran was named on of Ceramic Monthly Magazine's Emerging Artists.
